📌 Course Categories
In the Smart Grids Graduate Programs, graduate courses are classified as Compulsory courses and Elective courses. In order to successfully complete the coursework period, students must register for courses in accordance with the rules stated below.
🟡 Rules Concerning Compulsory Courses
In the MSc program, students must take at least two (2) courses listed as Compulsory (excluding Scientific Research Methods and Ethics, Seminar, Thesis Preparation and Thesis Study courses).
In the PhD program, students must take at least one (1) course listed as Compulsory (excluding Scientific Research Methods and Ethics, Seminar, Thesis Preparation, Thesis Study and PhD Qualifying Examination courses).
A course completed during the Master’s program cannot be counted in place of a Compulsory course requirement in the PhD program.
🎓 Total Credit Requirements
In both programs, to fulfill the required credit load:
Students must complete at least 8 graduate-level courses, including “Scientific Research Methods and Ethics” and “Seminar.”
The total credit load of these 8 courses must be at least 60 ECTS. If the total does not reach 60 ECTS, additional graduate courses must be taken.
📌 Note: If the Scientific Research Methods and Ethics course has already been completed during the master’s program, it is not taken again in the PhD program. Instead, an additional graduate course is selected to complete the required credit load.
🧠 Thesis Preparation and Thesis Courses
During the coursework phase, once the thesis advisor has been officially assigned, students must enroll in the “Thesis Preparation” course along with their compulsory and elective courses. Progress after the coursework period varies by program:
In the MSc program, after completing the 60 ECTS coursework requirement, the remaining 60 ECTS are fulfilled through Thesis Study (30 ECTS each semester) during the thesis period.
In the PhD program, after completing the 60 ECTS coursework requirement, the remaining 180 ECTS are fulfilled through the following sequence: Qualifying Examination (25 ECTS) → Thesis Preparation (5 ECTS) → Thesis Study (30 ECTS each semester) during the thesis period.
⏳ Semester Course Load Limit
A student may not take more than 40 ECTS of courses in a single semester.
